We Can All Be Productive

“Jesus told many stories in the form of parables, such as this one: "Listen! A farmer went out to plant some seeds…”   Matthew 13:3 NLT

I cannot look at the parable of the sower with eyes only on the unbeliever and the condition of his heart. I believe Jesus’s parable also speaks to the heart of every follower of His.

If the WORD of God (Seed) is going to produce an abundant increase within my life, then I must also be aware of the conditions in the parable that will prevent the word from germinating and thriving.

Jesus mentions the hardness of soil which prevents the seed from germinating, that equates to the hardness within our hearts.

He said thorns growing up choke out the newly planted seed (Word;) these are the cares of the world and a lust for more things.

He said some of the seed falls on shallow ground, where there is bedrock several inches under the surface. The seed begins to germinate and grow, but its roots can’t break through the bedrock, and the heat of the day will cause it to wither and die. Beware of shallow Christianity.

Then there is good soil where the hard ground has been plowed, the thorns removed, and the shallow layer of rock is either broken out or planted around. Now this plot of ground (the Heart) can be productive.

What the soil is to the productivity of the seed sown, so also is the human heart to the Word sown.
