It’s Results That Count!
I leaned to produce results in the Air Force. I transitioned from 4 years of military service when I turned 21, to an insurance company operating in 42 states.
I was results oriented, and that meant working when other agents stopped. Before I turned 23 I achieved the top agent position in Ohio. A couple years later I would move to CA and acquire an interest in a business opportunity.
By the time I was 27, the God I wasn’t seeking showed up. To me it was a logical, reasonable decision to began the journey with Jesus. I spent the next couple of years overcoming my skepticism.
I thought God would be pleased with my results oriented drive; He wasn’t.
This verse in Proverbs 16:2 became pivotal in my thinking over the next several years of spiritual growth.
“People may be pure in their own eyes, but the LORD examines their motives.”
The more I attempted to please God, the more I felt a distance growing between us. My works was not what He wanted. He was after my heart. I began to examine why I was considering a course of action, before I jumped in. My motives began to change, as well as my relationship with God.
I’ll never forget the message I gave in 1979 in the YMCA. “The Pure Delight of His Fellowship.”
Those are the results God wanted.
