Psalm 42:6 "Oh my God, my soul is cast down within me..."
This past week’s assassination of Charlie Kirk ignited heartfelt responses from around the world. Charlie’s unwavering faith in Jesus is exemplified by his complete trust and confidence in the goodness of God.
It may be difficult to say God is good if something bad happens to us unless we believe God has ultimate control in our lives. It is a belief and trust in God's love and sovereignty that will carry us through our darkest hours. Piercing this darkness requires our facing the fact that we are engaged in a great spiritual battle.
Jesus made it quite clear, “The thief’s purpose is to steal and kill and destroy…” John 10:10
Our adversary the devil will continue to unleash his destructive power to neutralized and destroy believers. Hold onto this Word. “Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you.” James 4:7
Instead of asking the question, "Why me?" We should ask our Heavenly Father, " How can I grow in my faith and draw closer to You, when my world is upside down?" God does not waste our most painful moments. We are on a journey and along the way we are being fitted for our eternal role which is to rule and reign with Christ forever. This should make us realize that our final destination is not earth, but heaven itself.
God continues to press us out of our comfort and into the knowledge of Himself. In His sovereignty we are being pressed to grow up. Our prosperity and the happiness of our children are not enough to make us truly blessed. It is in knowing God and learning to trust Him that we move toward living full lives of faith and faithfulness.
In the above referenced Scripture, David concludes by saying, "Therefore I will remember you from the land of the Jordan..." Even in David's darkest hour, he acknowledged his need to remember what God had done for him. David had learned to cast himself completely upon God for he knew that even death is not the end of God’s story.
