We return once more to the study of the Great Blue Heron.

At the first sense of approaching danger, this great blue avian, with a wingspan of nearly six feet, will effortlessly mount up from the earth.  He lifts his head toward heaven and within moments he is out of danger.  In like manner we to must look upwards towards the heavens and utilize the advantage that God has given us.

In Psalm 50: 15 God declares; “Call upon Me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you, and you shall glorify Me.” The implication is quite clear; there will be times of trouble lurking in the background, and there will always be a Deliverer.  The great blue heron must avail himself of the God given instincts of nature to experience deliverance.  We too must avail ourselves of the resources of heaven, for we have been made to experience God’s provisions firsthand.

In addition to taking great pains to distance himself from danger, when pressed, the great blue is a fierce fighter.  It is no exaggeration to read of an angry bird driving its beak so far through the blade of a pine oar that its tip projected a couple of inches on the far side.  The blue heron demonstrates courage in the face of adversity.

Are you willing to fight for what you believe in?  Do you dare stand your ground for the sake of your family and those who are most dear to you?  Will you also stand guard over your virtue, like the palace guards who are ever on alert.  Have you become unconscious of the movement of your adversary, who utilizes the element of surprise to rob from you the vigor and vitality of life?

This careless relaxing of virtue allows for compromise to break the hearts of those who love and depend on you.  It's the turning of the head, the lingering of fantasies, and lust that overflows and robs you of life.  Learn a valuable lesson from the great blue, for he would rather die than be taken captive.  Your loved ones need you and they are worth the pain of standing up for what is right and what is true.  There is no better way to stay free than to walk in the truth.
