“I will climb up to my watchtower and stand at my guardpost. There I will wait to see what the LORD says and how he will answer my complaint.” Habakkuk 2:1
Like Habakkuk, we have a watchtower where we wait for the LORD to speak, and to act. Habakkuk’s position allowed him to gaze over the countryside and the teeming population. Irrespective of God’s great blessings upon Israel, the people were not satisfied with God being enough. God was about to bring judgment upon the nation for their rebellion. And Habakkuk could see it coming.
We may wonder why amid our financial successes and increase in knowledge, the world appears to worsen from within. Our great successes and increase in knowledge cannot change the nature and heart of man. Only God can give us everlasting peace and true righteousness. We must seek God, and His righteousness, where we will learn to trust His judgment above the world’s allurements.
God tells Habakkuk, though My plans appear to be delayed, wait for them, for they shall come to pass. God always gets the final say on when, and we must catch the heavenly vision from Heaven’s high position in the watchtower.
“I have heard all about you, Lord. I am filled with awe by your amazing works. In this time of our deep need, help us again as you did in years gone by. And in your anger, remember your mercy.” Habakkuk 3:2
