Feasting Together

When I was a young boy, you knew that Sundays had a special significance. Shopping was limited as most stores were closed in deference to the Sabbath. Our family would go to church, returning home to rest, or share in family events. We looked forward to the feast that mom would prepare on Sundays, as this was when we would all gather for fun and leisure. Many times, guests would visit unannounced, and mom would invite them to share in our meal and family time.
The Bible reveals the many celebrated feast days of the Lord. These feasts were a continual reminder of God’s salvation and provision for His people. The people of Israel would refocus their attention many times a year upon the Lord’s work through these celebratory feasts.
Church, in a sense, is our feast day, our weekly reminder of what God has done for us. Sharing a fellowship meal with believers reminds us that we are never alone and we are a part of a much larger community. We also enjoy eating with those who know little about Jesus. We can model the kindness and goodness of God in our care for them.
Hebrews 10:24-25 "And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the day drawing near."

Well, a very similar experience growing up in the islands. Sunday lunch was the biggest and best meal of the week for us as a family. Most time with the extended family. It was also a full day of rest as work and sports were not allow on Sunday.
