The following passage speaks of our being the aroma of Christ. When growing up on the farm one of my favorite memories was coming in from the barn, and mom was up early baking bread. There is something magical about the aroma of fresh baked bread wafting on the air, flooding my thoughts and stirring my appetite. What does it mean to be the aroma of Christ?
“But thanks be to God, who in Christ always leads us in triumphal procession, and through us spreads the fragrance of the knowledge of him everywhere. For we are the aroma of Christ to God among those who are being saved and among those who are perishing, to one a fragrance from death to death, to the other a fragrance from life to life. Who is sufficient for these things?” 2 Corinthians 2:14-16 ESV
Those of us who love Jesus should carry the fragrance of his love and grace. Christ’s aroma on us should stir the appetite of those we meet and invite them to engage with us to enlarge their thoughts of our great God. The same fragrance that encourages life in Christ is the fragrance of death for those who reject Him.
I purpose to convey the aroma of Jesus with everyone I meet; the Holy Spirit will do the rest.
