God, Is That YOU Speaking?

I recall many times when I was preparing to move in a specific direction, the Spirit would speak to me through the Word, in my thoughts, and through changing circumstances to make a course correction.

Even when I undertake a new painting, I ask the Spirit to assist me, give me understanding of the subject, and when I am stuck on some aspect, I ask for His guidance. Don’t blame the Spirit for my finished product, He only can do so much with this piece of clay.

We tend to think we need to escape to a secret place to get away with God.  I have developed a habit of acknowledging the presence of God throughout my day, and ask the Spirit to guide me in the various tasks I am engaged in.

I am fully conscious that I cannot achieve anything worthwhile without the overriding assistance and empowerment of the Spirit of God. My thoughts are filled with trepidation when called upon to step into over my head situations. It is then that the Spirit steps in and undergirds my weaknesses. When I am finished with my assignment, I cannot claim credit or success, for I know I am incapable of achieving God’s plan without the anointing and empowerment of the Spirit.

Come Holy Spirit and awaken me from lethargy or inaction of faith.

Ephesians 5:18-20 NLT

Don't be drunk with wine, because that will ruin your life. Instead, be filled with the Holy Spirit.

The idea here is being continually filled with the Spirit. It is not a once for all proposition, rather a daily consciousness of the Spirit’s presence and filling.

These next verses are grouped right after being filled, which indicates that a life full of the Spirit will overflow with gratitude, thanksgiving, and praise.

[19] singing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs among yourselves, and making music to the Lord in your hearts. [20] And give thanks for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.
